2009 Awards for achievement in the field of XAFS. Call for nominations

The Awards Committee of the International X-ray Absorption Society (IXAS) solicits nomination for two awards (three awardees). These awards are made every three years at the International XAFS Conference. Nominations are solicited for awards to be made at the 14th International XAFS Conference (XAFS-14) in Camerino Italy, July 26-31, 2009.

All nominations must be received by March 15, 2009. Nominations for the awards should be sent to

Outstanding Young Scientist Award

Nominee must have made contribution to the XAFS field. Nominations are invited across all disciplinary areas, including both experimental and theoretical studies of XAFS. Nominee should be within 8 years of a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree as of February 28, 2009. Nominations should include a curriculum vitae for the nominee.
Two awards will be made:
1) IXAS Farrel Lytle Young Scientist Award for Theory or Instrumentation;
2) IXAS Dale Sayers Young Scientist Award for Applications of XAFS.
Each award is given with a prize money of $500.

Outstanding Achievement Award

This is the highest award of the International XAFS Society. The awards committee invites nominations across all disciplinary areas, including both experimental and theoretical studies of XAFS (IXAS Edward Stern Outstanding Achievement Award). Nominations should include a curriculum vitae for the nominee.
The award is given with a prize money of $1000.

Grigory Smolentsev (Farrell Lytle prize)

Outstanding Achievement Award:

Britt Hedman and Frank de Groot (Ed Stern prize)
