This directory contains the executable files and the documentation
of the GNXAS package of programs.

The programs can be downloaded using common browsers
(http://camcnr.unicam.it/www/gnxas.html) or copied through an anonymous ftp
procedure (anonymous@camcnr.unicam.it) and their use is allowed only to
authorised persons.
Requests for authorisation should be sent to either one of the authors.
An expiring date is inserted in the programs. The expiring date is renewed
approximately every six months and ensures to the users the use of the latest
version of GNXAS and a periodic bugs removal.
Compressed files containing documentation and executable files can
be downloaded directly using WWW (http://camcnr.unicam.it/www/gnxasdl.html).
Single executable or documentation files can be copied through ftp.

The WWW site is now open for downloading and information about GNXAS.
Please report any bug or problem you can have using the new http pages.
A Unix version for DEC-alpha workstations is available.
Updated programs for OpenVMS alpha and VAX versions are available for all of
the registered users (up to July , 8th). Expiration date 1-Feb-1998.

Updated programs for OpenVMS alpha are available for all of
the registered users (up to april, 8th). Expiration date 1-dec-1997.
The VMS VAX executable are available for all of the registered user
up to November, 12th, 1996 (expiration date 31-dec-1999).

A new subdirectory [PUBLIC.TOP] has been created to provide the executable
files and documentation of the TopDrawer graphic program, used as standard
graphic interface for GNXAS. The subdirectory contains several versions of
the program running on both AXP and VAX CPU-type VMS environments.

>>> NEWS ABOUT THE FITTING PROGRAM:
A new version of the FITHEO program incorporating several
new features has been released (OpenVMS version).
The program is designed to replace all of the previous
versions of the FITHEO program for single and multiple-edge
fitting.
The name of the present exectutable file is simply FITHEO.EXE.
New features and advances, as well as slight changes in the
input commands, are described in the new documentation contained
in the FITHEO.DOC file.
Users are welcome to try the new version and report any problem
to the authors.
Old versions of the FITHEO are still available and can be
used by old users until the end of the current year.
Updating to the present programs is highly recommended.

several atomic edges has been released (FITHEOM_N).
Some little bugs have been fixed and some features added on.
Use of four-body terms is being widely tested.
This version can replace the single-edge fitting routine as well.
The program is still compatible with previous command files
In near future, a single FITHEO program able to perform single and
multi-edge fitting will be released, with slight changes in the
input command files in both cases.
Old versions (june 1995) of the FITHEO are still available and can be
used by old users until the end of the current year.

MAJOR CHANGES IN FITHEO SUBROUTINES.
A version able to refine simultaneously several atomic edges has been
installed (FITHEOM).
This version can replace the single-edge fitting routine as well.
In view of the release of a new version of FITHEO, with slight differences
in the command file and in the minimization results, a long-term executable
file FITHEO.EXE has been generated and can be used up to the end of 1996.
Trial new versions of FITHEO, called FITHEO_N.EXE and FITHEOM_N.exe,
fully compatible with normal command files, can be now used (only alpha-VAX
versions provided right now).
In future, slight changes of the command files could be necessary for the
implementation of the new features.
A new documentation of FITHEO is in course of writing.
Note:
New users can only run the new versions of FITHEO (namely, FITHEO_N.EXE and
FITHEOM_N.exe)

FOUR-BODY MS BY GNXAS.
GNXAS has been revised in order to calculate four-body MS contribution
and providing a proper classification. A new documentation is in course
of writing.
NEW DOC FOR GNPEAK.
A new documentation of GNPEAK is contained in the DOC sub-directory.

The GNXAS package has been updated with expiring date 1-oct-1995.
There are slight changes in the software correcting some minor bugs in
the previous version and extending the usage of the package.

An updated publication list related to the GNXAS method has been now included
in the postscript file REF_GNXAS.PS.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The GNXAS programs have been updated and the expiring date has been extended
for other six months for authorised users.
Set the TYPE SET to image (or binary) in order to get executable files in the
correct format.
Some programs have been slightly changed and/or debugged and we recommend to
use everytime the latest version (written in the opening statetements).
In particular, some important changes in the output of the FITHEO program
have been performed, allowing a reduction in the number of the output files
and in the occupation of disk space.
The updated documentation will be soon available.
