X-ray diffraction facility at the XAS LAB

Our group has recently installed a four-circle compact diffractometer in the framework of a collaboration with the University of Brescia (Prof. L. E. Depero, INSTM and Laboratorio di Strutturistica Chimica).

KUMA diffractometer in use at the XAS laboratory (University of Camerino)

The diffractometer is a KM4 KUMA using a Four-circle kappa goniometer with a point detector (NaI scintillator). The more recent version of this instrument is the Xcalibur diffractometer (Oxford Diffraction ).

Our setup features:

  • Mo x-ray long fine focus 3KW source
  • high collimation of the source
  • High precision 4-circle kappa goniometer
  • Wide angular range accessible

We are now refining the alignment and performances of the diffractometer and we shall be shortly able to perform classic single-crystal structural refinements relevant to protein and macromolecular crystallography, minerals, and compounds of interest for chemistry and physics.

The project of our group is focussed in installing a high-pressure DAC cell for crystallographic measurements under extreme conditions.
